Molotov

Jahir Murrieta Rodríguez

Molotov is a Mexican rock band formed in 1995 by Micky Huidobro, Tito Fuentes, Randy Ebright, and Paco Ayala.

In September 1995, Molotov began its career with Micky Huidobro, Tito Fuentes, Javier de la Cueva, and "La Quesadillera." In October, the drummer, better known as "La Quesadillera," left the group and was replaced by Randy Ebright. The following year, Javier de la Cueva (nicknamed "J") left the group and was replaced by Paco Ayala. The band played the Mexico City nightclub circuit and began to build a legion of loyal fans. Throughout the year, they opened for Héroes del Silencio in Monterrey, La Lupita in Puebla, and Guadalajara with La Cuca. It was at a Tokín concert where the band opened for Illya Kuryaki & The Valderramas , when people from the Universal label were present and, upon seeing the concert, suggested they record an album. It was a difficult period.

In February 1997, they began recording their debut album, titled "Dónde juegarán las niñas?" (Where Will the Girls Play?) . The album was released that year, causing enormous controversy, with stores refusing to carry it due to its lyrics and cover art. Molotov went out to sell their records on the street, protesting the censorship they were receiving. The band embarked on extensive tours throughout Mexico, the United States, and Europe, enjoying success wherever they performed. The album was nominated for an international Grammy Award in the top category for "Best Latin Rock/Alternative Performance." This nomination marked a year in which they achieved widespread acclaim from both the public and critics, achieving gold certification in the United States.

ALBUMS

  • ¿Donde Jugaran Las Niñas?
  • Apocalypshit
  • Dance And Dense Denso
  • Con Todo Respeto
  • Eternamiente
  • Agua Maldita
  • Solo DLira

Molotov headlines the Surco Fest Concert in Buenos Aires, Argentina. The band is recognized for selling more than 800,000 units worldwide. During this period, they earned the following accolades: Platinum in Spain; Quadruple Gold in Mexico; and Gold in Argentina, Colombia, Chile, and the United States. The album achieved Double Platinum in Spain and Platinum in Chile and the United States. Molotov's global success continues as their debut album is released in places as diverse as Germany, Switzerland, Japan, Australia, and Israel. They tour in support of "Molomix," a remix album featuring an irreverent yet fun version of the Queen classic "Bohemian Rhapsody" titled "Rap, Soda, and Bohemia," as well as releasing a new song called "El Carnal de las Estrellas."

By December 1998, the album was included on the favorites lists of many major critics, including The New York Times, the Chicago Tribune, and the Newark Star-Ledger. A gay rights group in the Spanish cities of Catalonia and Bilbao attempted to sue the group over their song "Puto," which was misinterpreted as anti-gay. The case was quickly dismissed by the courts.

LOS BUNKERS

María Carolina Gómez Hernández                                                                                             22/06/25

Los Bunkers is an alternative rock band from Concepción, Chile, formed in 1999 by brothers Álvaro and Gonzalo López, along with Mauricio and Francisco Durán, and Mauricio Basualto. Their name is inspired by the resistance and strength of war bunkers, which reflects their independent and firm musical spirit.

From their beginnings, Los Bunkers stood out for mixing classic rock with influences from the Nueva Canción Chilena, especially from artists such as Violeta Parra and Los Jaivas, which gave them a unique sound within the Latin American music scene.

Their eponymous debut album “Los Bunkers” was released in 2001 and attracted attention for its freshness and intense lyrics. The real leap to fame came with the albums “La Culpa” (2003) and “Vida de Perros” (2005), which included hits such as “Llueve sobre la ciudad” and “Ven aquí”. In these works, the group developed a more sophisticated and mature sound.

During the following years, the band grew in popularity both in Chile and Mexico, where they established themselves for several years and found a solid fan base. In 2010, they released the album “Música Libre”, a tribute to Silvio Rodríguez, where they reinterpreted songs by the Cuban singer-songwriter, which further expanded their recognition in Latin America.

Despite their success, in 2014 they announced an indefinite pause, which left many of their followers hoping for a comeback. This pause lasted almost 9 years.

Finally, Los Bunkers officially returned in 2023 with a reunion tour called “Ven Aquí Tour”, which was a resounding success and confirmed their relevance in the music scene. In 2024 they released “Noviembre”, their first studio album in a decade, reaffirming their place as one of the most influential rock bands in the Spanish-speaking world.

Caifanes

CAIFANES

Jahir Murrieta Rodríguez

Their first concert was on April 11, 1987. Caifanes recounts it this way:

“We remember the atmosphere that surrounded us, a new atmosphere in sensations and spaces. Although we had all already participated in gigs (not exactly concerts), this gig would be different. There was a certain mystery and wonder, something very powerful.

Sabo came to my house one day,” Saúl recounts, “to tell me that we already had a gig. Our first gig would be at Rockotitlán. From there, we called Diego. Our eternal comrades in struggle were already ready: “Kill Me Because I'm Dying,” “It Will Be Because of That,” “Dawn,” “Tell Me Your Life.” Practically the entire first album was already alive, although it hadn't been recorded yet. With songs directed and made our own, we stepped for the first time on April 11, 1987, onto the small but immaculate stage of Rockotitlán.

We still remember our black suits, our disheveled and bulging heads, thin as Spirits, we played this music that has given us a space in time. The keyboards announced a mass without saints, the bass screamed every time the drums hit the room with their force, and the guitar displayed its own sonic intimacy, without virtuosity or protagonism, maintaining that fine, thin line where colors become chords and sounds. The lyrics left a mark on those present, thus achieving the howl of the race.
A band that moves away from the limelight and simply seeks its identity; its own space in time.

“Today we continue living. We continue breathing that first breath that has lasted so many years and that every time we go on stage is brutally manifested. Today you are still there, race, like the first day, like the last. Thank you for growing together. We go beyond what you see! With every glance, with every sigh, every time you sing, Caifanes lives on.”
Albumes
  • Caifanes
  • El Diablito
  • El silencio
  • El nervio del volcan
Evolution and change have always been part of Caifanes' history, but the constants have never changed: the music and the endearing magic that several generations share and carry tattooed on their hearts.
Caifanes extends and spreads this renewed strength, passion, and dedication, on and off the stage; song by song, concert by concert.
